The Archipelago Cinema is part of an event designed by Ole Scheeren and organized by ‘Film on the Rocks Yao Noi’, which took place from 9th-13th March 2012.

It was set to become an annual meeting place for art and film…but unfortunately I am thinking everybody was eaten by sharks, cause so far nothing has been set for 2013.

Using tyres and the rafts of local fishermen, Scheeren’s workers wait for low tide to set up a projector and large screen in time for the showing that evening. After the film festival concluded, the rafts were given back to the fisherman and life as usual went on in the small villages of the region.

Only question is, there better be popcorn, and where the hell is the washroom?

10/10 would watch Samuel L Jackson get eaten again.

What better way to get in touch with the local population and make friends than a man and his bag and an old pair of sneakers.

Jeremy set off in 2007 and after visiting over 100 countries he finally came arrived home. In the 5 years, 5 months and 5 days, the weary traveler hitched rides in over 1,753 vehicles and traveled 112,282 miles…all without paying a dime.

Balancing on a rock in the middle of the Drina River in Serbia, this house has been pounded by floods and high winds – surviving everything nature could throw at it for 45 years.

The idea for it came in 1968 when a group of young swimmers out having a splash in the river needed a place to rest. As the rock was not exactly the most comfortable place to lie down, they brought some boards from a nearby ruined shed. The following year the swimmers put up a roof and walls and a house materialized… turning the rough idea into an actual construction project of this one-room home.

The parts and supplies were transported by boat and kayak, and the larger pieces were simply placed in the water upstream, and captured as they floated down past the building location. The website describes the home as “a unique oasis of nature, [an escape] from the constraints of civilization.” Over the years, the home has withstood the forces of nature and multiple floods, including the powerful flooding seen in the video below.

Ok so this is not quite as good as the real thing, because of one minor issue…there is no SUN!

Located on the site of a former Soviet military air base in Kranusnick, Germany, ‘Tropical Island’ is built inside an air hanger that used to house airships… And despite it looking like temperatures are through the roof – outside the giant hangar it is actually snowing.

Incredibly, the hangar, which is 360 metres long, 210 metres wide and 107 metres high, is tall enough to enclose the Statue of Liberty…and in its first year attracted 975,000 visitors.

Damn I need one of these in my back yard.

One stingray got a bit too chummy at the Cayman Islands Stingray City, where tourists are encouraged to befriend stingrays with ziplock bags full of ground-up squid meat.

Slated for completion in 2016, the infinity pool will connect Sky Habitat Singapore’s two towers in a dramatic feat of engineering marvel.

Designed by renowned architect Moshe Safdie, owners will also be able to traverse the two structures via sky bridges on the 14th and 26th floors.

The enormous man-made pool, set along the coastline at Chile’s San Alfonso del Mar Resort, is larger than 20 Olympic-size pools and holds a whopping 66 million gallons of water.

Not only is the pool long, it’s a little deep – it holds the Guinness World Record for being the world’s deepest (115 feet). It took nearly five years to build and is said to have set developers back as much as $1.5 Billion (£1billion)… with up keep costs being a cool $3 million (£2 million) annually.

It uses a computer-controlled suction and filtration system to suck water in from the ocean at one end and pump it out at the other, while the sun warms it to 26C – nine degrees higher than the sea.

But this particular sinkhole in Oman, is the exception.

The beautiful limestone hollow, in Bimmah consist of a concrete stairway leads to the base of picturesque green waters, which are a result of the salty sea water meeting with fresh water.

This sinkhole is about 500 meters inland and is 40 meters wide and 20 meters deep…It is also believed to connect all the way to the ocean.

The Sands Skypark with pool is built at the height of 200 meters. Its lush, landscaped gardens are home to 250 trees and 650 plants and offer a total of 12,400 square meters of space – thats big enough to fit three football fields.

Hotel guests have the exclusive use of a 150-meter infinity swimming pool, the world’s largest outdoor pool at that height. Then of course there is the view…day or night you are treated to what has to be one of the most spectacular views in the world, views of the South China Sea or Singapore skyline.

The 1.2 hectare Skypark, designed as a tropical oasis, is longer than the Eiffel tower is tall and large enough to park four-and- a-half A380 jumbo jets.
