Well fellow guitar shredder David Neevel has come up with a solution to this age old problem. He devised a contraption that allows you to use the guitar as a keyboard… best part, if you want to build your own, just shoot him an email and he will help you out.

The SonarLocID keyboard from KSI, is a computer peripheral that protects a user’s sensitive data on a shared computer at times when they forget to log off from it.

The keyboard is equipped with an integrated sonar that monitors the presence of the user at the computer and as soon as it detects them stepping away from the workstation, it immediately locks it, thus preventing any of the data to be viewable to others. SonarLocID also features a badge ID reader and a fingerprint reader to add an extra layer of security and connects to the computer via USB.

Unfortunately the ghost that is tactile feedback haunts the Cube. Not only will you have to look at your virtual keyboard at all times while typing, without tactile feedback, I can see my fingers drifting across the keyboard every time I look up.

Do you remember having a xylophone as a child? It was originally made with wooden bars, each tuned to a specific pitch of the musical scale and struck with a rubber or wooden miniature mallet.

Fast forward 50 years, take away the wooden bars and mallet and replace them with a stylus (roach clip), a keyboard and build it around the open-source electronics prototyping platform Arduino and you have the coolest DIY miniature futuristic xylophone.

The Nebulophone, by Bleep Labs, does require some electronics know-how since you have to build it yourself, like soldering and stripping wires and what-not, but once done, you have all sorts of fun buttons and dials to alter the waveform; adjust decay, pitches, keyboard mapping, and sequential chords.

It also has “adjustable waveforms, a light controlled analog filter, LFO and an arpeggiator that can be clocked over IR.”
