Apparently not.

A pickup truck owner, in Unalaska, Alaska, parked his vehicle in the Safeway parking lot and went in for some goat milk and milk duds…when will you learn?

[Public Safety Director Jamie] Sunderland says the eagles were feasting on garbage bags of fish product in the bed of a pickup truck. Public Safety contacted the truck owner:

Sunderland: “Who confirmed they did have a bunch of fillets in the car, and they were trying to get rid of it, but there were so many eagles that they were, I think, somewhat alarmed to go near the vehicle, because it was just being swarmed by eagles.”

No one got hurt, and Sunderland says the truck owner wasn’t cited for the incident because the fish didn’t make a mess in the parking lot.

It’s nice to know that the Eagles aren’t as extinct as they are made out to be.

Just try not to look at it.

Despite the way it looks (creepy as hell) the sheepshead fish is actually normal compared to other members of its family.

The Sparidae family are notorious for trying out barious forms of hermaphroditism, including changing from female to male (protogyny), doing the opposite (protandry), or being unisexual (gonochorists).

But wait, there is more…the sheepsheads other cousin will give you toxicity-induced visions, hallucinations, or night terrors…kinda like doing a couple doubles of acid.

Another good thing about this huge creep [the sheepshead] is that, unlike one of its relatives, the Salema porgy (Sarpa salpa), you won’t risk having a terrible trip when you eat one. Apparently they taste great! The Salema porgy, also of the Sparidae family and nicknamed the dreamfish, was reportedly used for recreational hallucinogenic purposes in the Mediterranean during the Roman Empire and has played a role in traditional Polynesian ceremonies. Along with a handful of other fish, the flesh of the Salema porgy can sometimes inflict ichthyosarcotoxism on those who eat it, which is a very rare form of poisoning caused by the toxins of a tiny species of marine plankton called Gambierdiscus toxicus. This poisoning from contaminated fish flesh prompts intense hallucinations and terrifying nightmares that can last for several days.

TIL: Your better off eating something that looks a little ‘freaky’ than something that looks ‘normal’.

Is it weird that those teeth are the same color as mine?

This is a species of lanternshark that glows from its stomach…but also has ‘lightsaber-like’ spines that light up from above and warns predators not to ‘F#@k with me’ as they pass.

Slightly smaller than its larger shark cousins, measuring only about a foot and a half long, the lantern sharks’ can use their adaptation of its bioluminescent abilities in a couple of different ways.

From bellow:

“Imagine you are below the shark, the shark is swimming and you have the light from the Sun coming down. If you are just below the shark what you are going to see is a shadow. So imagine if the shark can actually produce a light, which is identical to the light produced by the Sun. Then the shadow of the shark is going to disappear.” In other words, any prey lurking below, typically a small fish called Mueller’s pearlside, will not see the shark coming.

Then from above:

“It was surprising – why would you try to be invisible from below but visible from the dorsal side? It’s a way to say: ‘Don’t bite me, I’m dangerous, I have spines on my back. You could be hurt.’ When you live in this dark place, what you try to do is avoid is to be seen by other animals, because there are no places to hide. It can be very dangerous – you put yourself at risk when you produce light from your back, unless it acts as a warning system. It’s surprising that these two apparently opposite behaviours can occur in a single organism at the same time. It is really paradoxical.”

Ok, so this may not be as exciting as pigs flying, but it’s definitely interesting…especially if they decide to start attacking fishermen.

Thanks to Jun Yamamoto of Hokkaido University, the rumors of the amazing flying squid have been proven true. The team of marine biologists at the University announced they have discovered that the neon flying squid (Ommastrephes bartramii) can fly through the air at up to 11.2 meters per second. They propel themselves by squirting water out at high pressure and can fly for a distance of about 30 meters (nearly 100 feet).

Back in July 2011, Yamamoto and his team were tracking a large group of squid (Todarodes pacificus, also known as neon flying squid) about 370 miles (600 km) off the coast of Tokyo. As the boat got nearer, the 8-inch (20 cm) squid propelled themselves from the water where they remained airborne for a distance of 98 feet (30 meters) — and at the breakneck speed of 37 feet per second (11.2 m/s).

37 feet per second? In other news, everyone who’s eaten calamari is screwed.

According to the researchers, the squid is able to accomplish this by shooting a powerful jet of water out from their funnel-like stems. Once they’re out of the water, they glide by spreading out their fins and arms. This configuration creates aerodynamic lift, enabling the squid to keep a stable arc on its flight. Consequently, the researchers say the squid is truly flying, and not just jumping. And indeed, the technique allows the squid to remain airborne for as much as three seconds at a time.

More proof of the rise of cthulhu.

The vampire squid from hell is found in the depths of all the world’s oceans, the creature lives in a twilight zone that few other animals could inhabit because the levels of dissolved oxygen are so low.

With its pretty blue eyes, dark red body and cloaklike webbing over its arms, experts assumed the worst, fearing that like its cousins the squids and the octopuses, it enjoyed dining on live prey.

But with the absence of nearby victims because of the depleted oxygen…a mystery was bestowed upon them.

The squid gather the food particles using two long, hair-lined filaments before wrapping the bits into meal-size mucus balls, according to undersea video footage, live lab observations of captive vampire squid, autopsies, and examination via electron microscope.

Oceanographers refer to the flaky debris as “marine snow”, and as a food source, there is an abundance of it… it is composed of decaying bodies, microscopic algae and slimy goo from gelatinous animals that use mucus nets to gather food.

It is because of this scientific study, the vampire squid will be renamed to ‘Morris The Big Softy.’

The biggest Tiger Fish on record was nearly 5ft long and weighed 154lbs, the equivalent of a super-welterweight prizefighter

This is why I don’t go into the water very much…never mind the fact that some of these things are as big as a cow, or that some can paralyse you with a minor 500-volt electric shock, the most frightful side effect from going into these waters is the fact that it may leave you testicle-less.

Yes testicle-less…It seems as if some of these ugly bastards have developed a taste for testicles.

Adventurer and star of the series of ‘River Monsters’ Jeremy Wade’s unconventional approach to finding the worst of the bizarre looking water dwellers is fuelled by the desire to not only to see the unseen but to make people aware that the creatures are more under threat from man than man is from them.

“The fishing line is just a means to an end. Having seen it, I then return it to the water.

Although potentially dangerous to people, many of these ‘monsters’ are misunderstood; only in rare instances – such as a giant snakehead protecting its young – do they wilfully attack people.”

Yah right…That is of course until they smell some fresh balls in the water (the ugly looking one right below).
