Victoria’s Secret might get credit for reinventing the bra and panty, but the earliest-known undergarments now date back to the Middle Ages, 600 years ago to be exact.

The University of Innsbruck said Wednesday that archeologists found four linen bras dating from the Middle Ages in an Austrian castle. Fashion experts are surprised by the discovery because many experts thought the bra was only around 100 years old.

Some of the ancient bras were intricately decorated with lace, suggesting that they were meant to be seen by someone else other than the person wearing it… One bra in particular looks exactly like a modern day brassiere.
