The dog world was in mourning today after the species’ ugliest member passed away. Yoda — mistaken at first by her owner for a rat — died in her sleep on Saturday. She was 15… RIP pretty girl.

Are they faces only a mother could love? They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and this scruffy, glassy-eyed chihuahua named Yoda is no exception.

In the dog-eat-dog world of contests, Yoda was crowned the ‘world’s ugliest dog’ on Friday, beating a one-eyed chihuahua and a blind 15-year-old pug in the competition.

Yoda’s owner Terry Schumacher revealed that she had fled when she first saw the two-pound dog abandoned behind an apartment building, thinking that it was a rat. But on closer inspection, she realised the diminutive ball of hair and limbs was actually a dog.

The 14-year old Chinese-crested Chihuahua mix with protruding tongue and gangly legs was awarded the honour by judges in California, reports Daily Mail.

I wonder how those dogs even eat or drink if they can’t get their tongues back into their mouths.

According to the National Post, the 35 year-old suffered a deep knife wound in his right calf caused by one of the birds involved in the fight, who just happen to have a blade strapped to its leg. Ochoa died two hours later in hospital.

I thought cockfights were fair and just competitions between two consenting roosters…when did knives get thrown into the mix?

As one of the law enforcement officials pointed out — that particular area of the leg is home to major arteries, which means there would be substantial blood loss if not treated immediately. So why the delay? Because the cockfight was crashed by sheriff’s deputies. Ochoa fled, along with the rest of the participants.
Authorities, acting on an anonymous tip, found five dead roosters and other evidence of cockfighting at the location.

Rumor has it that Ochoa had bet big money on the other rooster. Forgive me but I have no pity for this man.
