Lisa describes the “comforting feeling” of chewing on cat hair and while she says that stroking her cat with her tongue is a bonding experience, she and her cat aren’t going all the way — Lisa explains, “I’m not lickin’ her butt.” Yet.

Those changes have kickstarted a small but fast-growing medical-marijuana industry, estimated to be worth about $1.7 billion as of 2011, according to See Change Strategy, an independent financial-analysis firm that specializes in new markets. In Colorado alone, sales topped $181 million in 2010, and the business employed 4,200 state-licensed workers, says Aaron Smith, executive director of the National Cannabis Industry Association.

If opening up a ‘medical marijuana’ shop isn’t your thing, consider this…Medbox (MDBX), a firm that makes and sells medical marijuana dispensing machines, says its stock “is getting way too high.” Shares spiked 3,000% this week (from about $4 Monday to $215 Thursday), “prompting executives to try and dampen investor enthusiasm.”

The machines, which dispense set doses of the drug, after verifying patients’ identities via fingerprint, could potentially be used in ordinary drugstores too, says Medbox founder Vincent Mehdizadeh. Based in Hollywood, Calif., the company already has 130 machines in the field, and it expects to install an additional 40 in the next quarter. “The smart money is trying to help with compliance and transparency,” Mehdizadeh says.

Aside from the profiting from growing and selling marijuana, the industry benefits a armada of other businesses, such as insurers, lawyers and agricultural-equipment shops.

Mark Twain is said to have remarked that a gold rush is a good time to be in the pick and shovel business. Investors may be able to apply that same bit of wisdom to the growing number of U.S. states that have legalized pot.

London-based photographer Roman Sakovich produced this project ‘Half’ while he was studying photography at the Arts University College at Bournemouth. He photographed subjects in the studio using make-up “in order to explore the outsiders superficial judgment of the same person before and after drug abuse”. After which, he combined the before and after images into one in order to make the change more visible.

Well I think I may have found the reason why fuel prices are going so high… people are starting to drink it! Shannon’s shocking addiction is drinking gasoline. She often drinks it straight out of the gallon, and sometimes licks the cap.

Shannon described the gasoline as sweet and sour, like a tangy sauce. “Even though it hurts me, it makes me feel good,” She claims. “It tingles at first and then it burns the back of my throat.”

TLC approximates that she has consumed over five gallons in the last year alone.

Needless to say…. drinking gasoline can cause burns, vomiting, diarrhea and, in very large amounts, drowsiness or death,’ the New York State Department of Health writes. For those reason, ‘it is toxic’.

Horrified doctors learned of the teenager’s chronic 15-year addiction after she collapsed and was rushed to hospital struggling to breathe.

Factory worker Stacey, who has never touched greens or fruit, was found to have anaemia and swollen veins in her tongue.

Doctors there made it clear that she was going to die if she didn’t immediately add fruits and vegetables to her diet. “I am starting to realise this is really bad for me,” Irvine acknowledged.

Most people would probably blame the parents here.  But keep in mind… these people are of the same genetic makeup of a girl who was dumb enough to eat nothing but chicken nuggets for 15 years.

Yesterday she was recovering at home after being put on an urgent course of vitamins — which started in hospital with injections. But despite medics begging her to change her diet she still cannot get enough of chicken nuggets.

Nutritionist Dr Carina Norris said that, during her ten years of experience, she has not come across such an extreme case of food addiction. She believes Stacey’s diet will have serious long-term health implications, as her body will be lacking iron, calcium, antioxidants, vitamins and good fats.

‘She should view her health scare as a warning – a wake-up call that she needs to drastically change her diet.

Seriously, if mom and pops only introduced her to apples 15 years ago this all could have been avoided.

Jeffries had stolen a photo from this young homeless girl huddled in a sleeping bag. The photographer knew that the young girl had noticed him but his first reaction was to leave. He says that something made him stay and go and talk with the homeless girl.

That day changed his perception about the homeless, and he then decided to make them the subject of his photography.

Jeffries makes gritty, honest, and haunting portraits of homeless people he meets in Europe and in the US, and makes it a point to get to know them before asking to create the portraits.

It’s a somber feeling thinking that any one of these folks could be your mother, father, brother, sister or even your child.
