Well today Defense Distributed tested their ‘Liberator ‘— a pistol made entirely of ABS plastic (15 of the 16 pieces made with 3D printer) with the exception of a nail you can find at any hardware store as the firing pin. (standard .380 handgun round)

So what does this mean? Potentially this marks in a very real way the arrival of firearms that can be printed in someone’s garage, by people who have to answer to no one about how many of those guns they make, or where those firearms go.

For as little as $1000 (plus the $8000 3D printer) and the schematics for the weapon, which Defense Distributed founder Cody Wilson is planning on making available for free this weekend, you too can build your own gun and break into someone’s house or just take out the ex-wife…she had it coming anyway.

As one commenter posted: This is great. “I’ll use this to protect myself, since real guns are banned in my country.”

Update: On Sunday, New York Senator Charles Schumer echoed Israel’s call for that new legislation to ban 3D-printable guns. “A terrorist, someone who’s mentally ill, a spousal abuser, a felon can essentially open a gun factory in their garage.”

Not only is the shoulder stock of this AK-47 made from a shovel, the receiver (the housing for the action) is also from a shovel.

They call him Boris and the guy actually melted, reforged, reshaped, cut and welded the blade of a shovel into a completely functional receiver. He then added a $30 cheap scope with a double rail and added a cheap laser to go with it.

Emerging Air And Sea Power.

Here we go again… Nearly 2 years after China’s Chengdu aerospace firm unveiled its J-20 jet fighter prototype — Beijing’s first stealth warplane — the rival Shenyang Company has revealed what appears to be a competing, radar-evading plane.

Though there’s currently some discussion ongoing about the prototype’s official designation, what’s certain is that China’s definitely working on yet another stealth jet.

It is most likely called the J-31, not the J-21, though it’s definitely called what translates to the Falcon Eagle. The J31, as analysts call it, shows how fast China is moving.

“There’s been a lot of progress over the past decade. And the fact that they can produce stealth fighter prototypes and have two factories producing them in competition with each other is a sign of how far China has come,” says Phillip C. Saunders of the National Defense University, who has just written a book on the Chinese airforce.

But wait there is more…On Thursday, more leaked pictures emerged. They show what looks like a ceremony on the deck of China’s first aircraft carrier.

China’s first aircraft carrier, which is being refitted at the port of Dalian, flew all the flags on Thursday. Photos show what looks like a ceremony is being held on the deck of the carrier.

The carrier, built on former Ukrainian vessel Varyag, is capable of carrying around 30 fixed wing fighters and helicopters and a crew of about 2,000. And the hull number, “16,” has been painted on the ship recently.

I am going to say it again casue it sounds so evil….scientists and engineers at Picatinny Arsenal are busy developing a device that will shoot lightning bolts down laser beams to destroy its target.

The weapon idea mimics the way that lightning leaps from thunderclouds to strike the ground — the electricity follows the path of least resistance.

So how much power are we talking? According to lead scientist on the project, George Fischer:

“If a laser beam is intense enough, its electro-magnetic field is strong enough to rip electrons off of air molecules, creating plasma,” said Fischer. “This plasma is located along the path of the laser beam, so we can direct it wherever we want by moving a mirror.

To put the energy output in perspective, a big filament light bulb uses 100 watts. The optical amplifier output is 50 billion watts of optical power.”

I am not sure what would be more destructive the Navy’s railgun superweapon capable of hurling hypersonic projectiles over 50 to 100 miles, or the Army’s future ‘Zeus’ division with their guns that shot lightning bolts instead of bullets?
