“Onement VI” from abstract expressionist painter Barnett Newman sold on Tuesday at a Sotheby’s auction for $43.8 million dollars.

OK, OK, the 8.5ft by 10ft dark blue canvas with Newman’s distinctive ‘zip’ running through the center, was painted in 1953…but its still just a blue canvas with a white line.

Until yesterday, Onement V held the previous auction record for Newman. It sold for $22.4 million last year.

If Newman was still alive, his next painting…a canvas painted red with a white line, would probably fetch $50 million.

That’s right… Over the course of 18 months, Frank Ohle figured out all of the ridiculously improbable steps involved in turning his chopper into a plane/motorcycle hybrid — that includes fitting a custom chassis, painting, suspension and electronics — and ended up with an absolutely insane, incredibly noisy nine-cylinder super-nut-job bike.

Well today Defense Distributed tested their ‘Liberator ‘— a pistol made entirely of ABS plastic (15 of the 16 pieces made with 3D printer) with the exception of a nail you can find at any hardware store as the firing pin. (standard .380 handgun round)

So what does this mean? Potentially this marks in a very real way the arrival of firearms that can be printed in someone’s garage, by people who have to answer to no one about how many of those guns they make, or where those firearms go.

For as little as $1000 (plus the $8000 3D printer) and the schematics for the weapon, which Defense Distributed founder Cody Wilson is planning on making available for free this weekend, you too can build your own gun and break into someone’s house or just take out the ex-wife…she had it coming anyway.

As one commenter posted: This is great. “I’ll use this to protect myself, since real guns are banned in my country.”

Update: On Sunday, New York Senator Charles Schumer echoed Israel’s call for that new legislation to ban 3D-printable guns. “A terrorist, someone who’s mentally ill, a spousal abuser, a felon can essentially open a gun factory in their garage.”

Conservation biologist Phil and wildlife photographer Jeff were leading a small group of tourists on a recent tour when Phil spotted the insect, a rare yellow-colored caterpillar of the flannel moth, on a leaf and was so struck by its fluffy mane he couldn’t resist taking a photo.

The caterpillar’s “hair” actually consists of setae, which are long, fine silky appendages that, in this case, can cause serious skin irritations. If an unlucky person tries to grab one, they will get a handful of venom, released when the setae poke into skin. Like a bee sting, the injuries can be painful but, for most, are not life threatening.

Just like the X-Factor except for the naked women parading around and being ‘judged’ by two creepy looking male hosts, a Danish prime time TV show (Blachman)is under heat and been branded humiliating and sexist by viewers.

The primetime show features a “series of silent women who walk in to a studio and slip out of their bathrobes in front of a leering host and his guest.

The duo run their eyes over the ladies in buff and controversially judge the women on their bodies. In one clip, host Thomas Blachman even asks a woman “would you mind turning around for a moment”.

But wait there is more… Some of the most puerile moments have included comments such as ‘How’s that p****’ working out for you?’ and ‘Very animated nipples.’

Dane Blachman, a jazz musician, who claims to have created the idea himself, believes he is a “genius”.

Getting paid to look at naked women? I would say he is a genius.

“I told them the entire idea of the show is to let men talk about the bodies of naked women while the woman is standing right in front of them. The female body thirsts for words… The words of a man… And they went for it.”

I presume these women were horse whipped and threatened with dates for a month with Russell Brand to make them do this? They obviously enjoy it as much as lecherous men do.
