Pentagon Creates New Medal for Drone Pilots – Cause Drinking Moutain Dew Miles away from the Combat Zone Deserves a Medal Too
If you enjoy drinking Mountain Dew and are really, really good at playing video games, you may just have a career in the military… and you might even get a medal for your bravery.
The Pentagon is creating a new high-level military medal that will recognize drone pilots and, in a controversial twist, giving it added clout by placing it above some traditional combat valor medals in the military’s “order of precedence.”
This means that even though your not ‘in’ the actual war and face no harm or physical risk may get a medal that ranks just bellow the Distinguishes Flying Cross, but will have precedence over — and be worn on a uniform above — the Bronze Star with Valor device, a medal awarded to troops for specific heroic acts performed under fire in combat.
This award recognizes the reality of the kind of technological warfare we are engaged in the 21st century, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta told reporters in Washington on Wednesday.
The new medal will be awarded for specific acts, such as the successful targeting of a particular individual at a critical time.
There is no way this medal should rank higher than the Bronze Star….It’s like giving someone the Congressional medal of Honor for getting a really high score in Frogger.
Are we going to start giving them Purple Hearts when they get carpal tunnel as well?
