Ultimate Fakery – This is not an Ant
Just when you think you have a grasp on the whole insect/bug world, the animal kingdom throws you for a loop.
In an amazing attempt at fakery, this this Ugandan jumping spider (top) would like you to think it’s really a Tetraponera twig ant. Those aren’t antennae you see pointing forward, those are the forelegs, for a total of eight legs, ants only have six.
So why would a spider want to look like an ant? Survival…Most birds and other vertebrate predators prefer not to eat stinging ants. I wonder what an ant eater thinks about this sorcery?
