Pitch Black Monster Warrior Wasp – UPDATE: They’re Here
From the Indonesian islands of Sulawesi, comes a previously unknown, pitch-black wasp five times bigger than the wasp flying around your back yard.
Males of this wasp species measure 2.5 inches long, or about the same size as a human ring finger in length. Their jaws are impressively large and are said to be even stronger and longer than the wasp’s front legs.
Little is known about the wasp’s behavior, since it was not observed much in the wild, but it’s likely that the big jaws play a role in fighting and mating. The huge wasp was named “Garuda,” after a mythical “winged warrior” bird from Indonesia.
Lynn Kimsey who discovered the “komodo dragon” of the wasp family says, “Its jaws are so large that they wrap up either side of the head when closed.” She added, “When the jaws are open they are actually longer than the male’s front legs. I don’t know how it can walk.”
So if you whining about getting a little sting this year…just imagine getting stung by this bad boy, even worse getting bit.
UPDATE:
THEY’RE HERE!… Looks like these things may be migrating or America is under some kind of insect warfare. Katy sent me this picture of her friend’s boyfriend who lives in Oklahoma.

I have a HUGE wasp of some kind thats living somewhere out around my patio. It sure looks like this one. It is easily 2 1/2 to 3 " long. It flys extremely fast, not just a hoverer like normal wasps. I am unable to see it close up enough to tell if it has large jaws, but it sure fits the description! Is there any chance that there would be any in Michigan?? I am located in Utica, MI
Please e-mail me Thank you.
