Hallelujah – Japanese Scientists may have found a cure for Baldness
First we find out that drinking beer makes you smarter, now it looks as if Japanese scientists have sparked hopes of a baldness cure after growing a clump of hair on a hairless mouse…not that I am going bald or anything.
Looking eerily similar to those long strands of hair that grow out of dark moles some people have on their chin, boffins in Japan gave the mouse his new ‘do by bioengineering hair follicles and transplanting them into the skin.
The creature eventually grew hair, which continued regenerating in normal growth cycles after old hairs fell out. The miraculous treatment is expected to improve treatment for baldness.
Professor Takashi Tsuji from the Tokyo University of Science said: “Our current study thus demonstrates the potential for not only hair regeneration therapy but also the realization of bioengineered organ replacement using adult somatic stem cells.”
