Don of Doners– Worlds most expensive Kebab $1,225
I have yet to try a Kabob, but if I did, I wouldn’t be spending $1,225 (£750), unless it was made out of gold.
Dubbed this ‘King of Kebabs’ the gastronomic creation, from Chef Andy Bates, is not one for enjoying at 3am on Saturday morning after a night of heavy beer drinking.
The swanky creation comes complete with your typical Champagne infused mint and cucumber yoghurt, micro cress and lettuce, Coeur de Boeuf (Bull’s Heart Tomato)tomatoes and oregano concass along with some Barrel Aged Ewe’s Milk Feta cheese. You can also expect the usual saffron infused flat bread, milk-fed lamb from the Pyrenees and edible gold leaf garnish.
Chef Andy Bates created the kebab to mark the launch of The Great Food Truck Race TV show, celebrating street food…I wonder if it comes with chips.
The breakdown in full for the ultimate doner is:
Shoulder of milk-fed lamb – $138.00 (£84)
Coeur de Boeuf tomatoes – $33.00 (£20)
Micro Cress and Bibb Salad – $23.00 (£11.95)
Chili Peppers – $58.00 (£35)
Barrel Aged Feta Cheese – $89.00 (£54.20)
Laudemio Extra Virgin Olive Oil – $45.00 (£26.95)
Purple violet potatoes – $26 (£15)
Edible gold leaf and platinum – $200.00 (£130)
Saffron – $227(£138)
Krug Champagne – $321 (£195)
Other ingredients (garlic, lemon, salsa, mint, cucumber, yoghurt) – $65.00 (£40)
Total: $1,225 (£750.10)
