There’s much worse that happens to cats that are caught out at night. I’ve seen some pretty horrible things done to cats on 4chan. Keep your cat indoors, at least while you can’t watch him, or else some kids might find him and torture him to death. Spraying them with water is pretty tame in comparison

You can buy compressed air canisters with a motion detector on them at places like Pets Mart. That blast of air scares the crap out of critters. A couple solved my stray cat, skunk and raccoon problem.

My neighbor's cat terrorizes our dainty little kitty every day, shits in out yard, and walks all over my car. Usually I just get dirty paw prints on my roof and windshield, but once it decided to slide down my windshield with it's claws out and scratch the shit out of it. I chased that cat off a few times with a cup of water and once threw cayenne pepper around my car so when it groomed itself later it got a nasty little surprise.
Your cat is in my yard it is fair game.
