Wewood Watch made for the true Environmentalist

Crono watch made from Maple wood

For thetrue environmentalist, Los Angeles based Wewood, have designed two collections of watches made from all natural wood and free of artificial and toxic materials…meaning they are completely hypo-allergenic.

‘Date’ and ‘Crono’ use  miyota movement and are crafted using various hardwoods, such as Ebony (black), Red Wing Celtis (brown), Maple (beige) and Guaiaco (Army). Buying a watch also help reduce your carbon footprint as Wewood, in collaboration with American Forests, will plant one tree for every watch purchased.

    Hi,
I realize that this is an old post, but I think you're incorrect regarding the wood used in the black DATE watch, pictured on the left: this watch is actually made of Blackwood, not Ebony. According to we-wood's website, under "Woods", they give the following info:

"Blackwood is a hardwood native to Tasmania’s forests and is the perfect timber for delicate craftswork. It is easily worked, very stable and long lasting. Blackwood’s durable seed remains viable for decades, making this delicate timber easy to grow, ensuring sustainability."

Having worked a bit with wood, I can assure you that making a watch from the type of ebony you mean (the type of ebony that's primarily black is Gaboon ebony, BTW; there are several other kinds of ebony, most of them not black!), while possible, would be difficult, as well as expensive! Ebony of this type (Gaboon) is difficult to work!

Otherwise, though, I enjoyed your piece! Thanks for bringing these to people's attention! :-D

    Regards,

    rory
