Interactive Transparent Bricks at the Plinthos Pavilion
What couldpossibly be done to change the way we look at a brick? The Clay brick has been one of the most commonly used building materials in exist stance for thousands of years. Man has always depended on it for its solidity and reliability.
Mab Architects used 21,816 bricks to build a structure in Athens, Greece, with continuous floor and walls that leave the usually-hidden perforated sides of bricks exposed. The permeable surface allows air, light, color and sound to communicate through the wall, creating a totally interactive environment.
However, things are not as simple as they seem.
The color and sound mechanisms are triggered by touching stem lights embedded in the floor. A camera records the movement of these devices, transmits the data to a computer, and transforms the visual signal into frequencies used in the audio and video installation.
