The Planes you will be flying in come 2025 – NASA
What exactly will you be flying in, come 2025…Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and Boeing were contracted by NASA to study advanced concept designs for aircraft that could hit the skies in the not so distant future.
The project hoped to create a fully-functioning plane by the year 2025 that would not only use significantly less fuel, but be cleaner and quieter and be able to kick ass. To our surprise, the designs they received from the trio were not only radical, but also a little bit nostalgic.
NASA required that:
Each design has to fly up to 85 percent of the speed of sound; cover a range of approximately 7,000 miles; and carry between 50,000 and 100,000 pounds of payload, either passengers or cargo.
The Boeing design is nothing new. They tried to do this a long time ago, but if I recall correctly, despite the vast improvements the new design would bring, they never brought it to market or production because people wanted window seats.
