Pac-Man Coming to TV as a Live Action Game Show – Game On!

In what can only be described as bizarre and a long time coming, that bright yellow icon of the 80’s will finally get his own TV show.

Deadline.com is reporting that the popular arcade game will be developed into an unscripted series for TV; thirty-one years after Midway first released it. Merv Griffin Entertainment is partnering with Namco Bandai to create an unscripted series where contestants will play Pac-Man in real life.

That is to say, human beings will presumably be inside a giant Pac-Man maze. The show is envisioned as a “big, crazy Wipeout-type event with a lot of energy,” said Merv Griffin’s president of TV, Roy Bank. “The idea we have is to take what Pac-Man is and bring it to life, to bring what is essentially the world’s biggest game of tag to television.”  Bank is executive producing the project, which is now being taken out to the broadcast networks, with David Russo, who brought the idea to him.

Waka waka has once made it to TV once before, as a short-lived animation in the early 80s which chronicled Pac-Man, his wife Pepper and their family’s battle with the Ghost Monsters.

I wonder if it is going to look anything like this?
