Helicopter Propeller saves 2 Deer from Certain Death

This is not in the traditional sense of a rescue, when you think of a helicopter saving an animal from a frozen lake, but it is a warm and fuzzy Christmas feel good story.

Two icebound deer were rescued Friday from certain death in dramatic fashion, one with the draft of a low-hovering helicopter, the second by a man who went onto the ice and forced the animal to shore, with the help of another man.

This pair of deer, which were apparently trapped on the frozen Mississippi for two days, got some assistance from a helicopter, but it can’t land on the river or hoist the deer up. So it just uses the wind from its rotor to slide one of the deer to shore. The poor thing can barely stand when she gets out, but at least she’s safe, as people stopped traffic along the highway to make sure it was not hurt.

Of course it would have been ironic if it was pushed towards a thin part of the ice and it broke through and drowned.
