Morgue workers drag body down stairs like a bag of garbage

Horrific video showing how two, soon to be fired, city morgue workers drag the corpse of a man down stairs like it was a bag of garbage.

The condensed version of the video shows just how callous and uncaring humans can be. The two mortuary technicians are caught dragging and humiliating the lifeless body of Ropell McBeth, a schizophrenic man who lived a difficult life before he died at an assisted-living facility this year.

They pulled the 190-pound load onto an elevator. When they emerged, one peered around a corner as if to see if anyone was looking.

Then the duo dragged McBeth down the hall and out of the building door, sliding him down a flight of stairs.

Finally, after struggling to lift the bag, they just carelessly toss the body into their van.

“They treated my brother like he wasn’t even a person, but garbage. They should be ashamed of themselves,” says the sister Sandy McBeth-tuitt, who is using the security footage in a lawsuit filed against the medical examiner’s office.

The Director of Mortuary Services, Robert Kearney did send a letter of apology, “Please accept my apologies for the way [my] staff handled your brother, as I stated before it is not our policy and procedure to handle the remains in that manner,” but it was too little too late for McBeth-tuitt.

“He had a hard life, and didn’t deserve to be treated like a bag of trash after his death. I’ll be thinking of what they did to him the rest of my life.”

Hmm. I, too, see nothing wrong with this. It would be nice, of course, not to have let the stretcher touch the ground, but the floor was smooth, the steps near the van were common-sense… where is the problem exactly? God bless the men who move bodies daily. May they treat them with as much respect as possible.
